Märkisches Museum
Am Köllnischen Park 5
10179 Berlin

Fr - Thur | 08.07. - 14.07.2016 | from 13h00

In the focus of the Sommerakademie at the Märkischen Museum is in this year the Waisenbrücke. During one week artists paint and draw open-air their version of the disappeared building.
The Waisenbrücke, on of the oldest bridges over the Spree in Berlin, was demolished in the second world war by German troops and after provisional restoration torn down in 1960/61. The already in the "Planwerk Innenstadt" envisaged builidng of a new bridge for pedestrians and bikers is very important for the environment around the Märkische Museum and the Köllnischen Park. The aim is to connect the inner-city Kiez with the city-center. With the new brigde the Klosterviertel, the Nikolaiviertel and the Humboldt-Forum would be accessible on foot and at the same time connected with the Spreeweg Berliner Urstromtal,

The object of the Sommerakademie 2016 is to give an impulse for the building of a new bridge at the place of the former ehemaligen Waisenbrücke. The Berlin artists Werner Aufenfehn, Axel Gundrum, Matthias Koeppel, SOOKI (Koeppel), POGO, Dirk Schmitt, Frank Suplie, Klaus Tenner and Frank W. Weber paint and draw together with their students of the Gymnasiums Tiergarten in the neighbourhood of the Märkischen Museums.

Interested visitors can observe them working and regard their ideas of the new bridge at the museum's feast.

A project of "change exchange" from Verein Berliner Künstler under the direction of Sooki Koeppel in cooperation with the Stadtmuseum Berlin.

Location: Märkisches Museum and neighbourhood

Shortly after the turn to the 20th century an arists' settlement developed in Schwalenberg (Südostlippe), which had its zenith from 1919-1933. (1870-1950) und Robert Kämmerer-Rohrig (1893-1977) will be centered and be presented in the surround of their colleagues and students.

Examples of contemporary outdoor painting from 18 members of the Vereins Berliner Künstler, who regularly work in Schwalenberg, have been there as awardees or worked on other country sites, form another aspect of the exhibition.
Works from Dagmar Diekmann, Gerhard Gabel, Hans-Jürgen Gabriel, Marianne Gielen, Claudia Hartwig, Susanne Knaack, LOUIS (? 2015), Christin Lutze, Matthias Koeppel, Peter Moeller, Klaus Mollenhauer, Helga Ntephe, Renate Pfrommer, Michaela Rothe, Evelyn Sommerhoff, SOOKI, Andrea Streit and Jürgen Tenz will be shown.

The Korean artist SOOKI, painter and author and
Prof. Matthias Koeppel, painter, poet, Prof. em.
für Freies Malen und Zeichnen, TU Berlin

In the context of the Asien-Pazifik Woche 2016

Background and Perspectives of the Neokubismus
Using the example of two exhibited paintings in the Urania-Bistro, SOOKI and Matthias Koeppel present their concept of Neokubismusm, which through dissembling and new assembling geometry pictures a modified visible world.

On the occasion of the Asien-Pazifik Woche the artists discuss with interested Korean colleagues and visitors, how for example Asian tradition leaves its mark on current art and regional varying values could be included into a new international style finding. A way out of the rampant general arbitary acts in the art?

SOOKO, painter, author, lives and works in Berlin
Kudamm Kranzler, Kreuz und Quer (Öl/Lwd., 120 x 100 cm, 2016)
In the course of the invention of Neokubismus developed a picture, in which the Café-Kranzler motive was translated in Neokubistik style. The geometric fragmentation is simultaneously a symbolic hint at the projected structural rearrangement of the Kranzler-Eck.
The fragmentation is enhanced through the radical black and white presentation, which is increased by a red detail.

Prof. Matthias Koeppel, painter, poet, Prof. em. für Freies Malen und Zeichnen, TU Berlin
Angelika hat eingekauft (Öl/Lwd., 135 x 100 cm, 2012)
This picture was developed as part of the Kurfürstendamm-Series (2012), in which Matthias Koeppel worked with Neokubistic elements for the first time. Decent geometric handling of the realistic scenery open the possibility, to merge figures and townscape into a stylistic unity.

According to many social theorists, the world is getting smaller. Technology is continuously facilitating the process of globalization. Today, most of us are able to communicate with someone on the opposite side of the planet in an instant with the many evolving online platforms. A few keystrokes can cause a global movement. This ever-changing technology is speeding up globalization while simultaneously making us more isolated.
More and more, people are slowly rejecting technology to reconnect to the physical world and real people. We are experiencing a return to analog. This return to the past-to an analog time-could be a metaphor for the West Berlin of the 1980s when most of these artists developed and creativity was at its peak in experimentation.
Today, Berlin is still booming with creativity, but in creative industries including many tech start-ups. Present-day Berlin is "digital". The comeback of the analog is not simply a nostalgia for the past, but instead a driving force of a post-digital era, where a new hybrid physical and digital-phygital-future is emerging.
In this allegory, Berlin's future is to be seen and redefined once again.

MIA_BER is an exhibition exchange project between ArtCenter and Verein Berliner Künstler.

«Germany seen through the eyes of an artist»
Since 2008, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Baku organizes jointly with the Academy of Arts Baku, as well as with the QGallery and the Gallery Berlin-Baku each year a competition with the theme: "Germany seen through the eyes of an artist". Students of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts and young artists, who have never visited Germany before, are participating at this competition. The subject itself gives a wide choice, but on the other side it is compressed within the borders of a country: Germany. "How do I see this country?" "How do I imagine this country?" The preferred chosen colours are the tricolour of Germany: black, red, gold. Regardless this focus the artists are creating works, which are rich in concept and imagination.
A qualified jury selects three winners, who win a trip to Germany. The young artists will have the opportunity to see the country with their own eyes: to visit museums and galleries, to participate in master classes of renowned German artists, to compare their fantasies of Germany with their real impressions. 15 winners from the years 2008-2012 are exhibited.

Korean Fine Arts Association (Kfaa) is a membership association of artists, established in 1961. The headquarters of the association is in Seoul and many regional organizations are spread all over the country. There are also branches abroad.
The association includes the traditional Korean painting, oil painting, sculpture, design, ceramics and calligraphy. Currently it has 29 246 members. The focus is on the traditional Korean painting, oil painting, sculpture and calligraphy. The association was formally established in order to advance the nation's fine arts, to advocate the rights and interests of artists, to facilitate international exchange of fine arts, and to promote reciprocal cooperation among artists.
Every year the Kfaa plans 17 major exhibitions. The seven exhibiting artists are not giving only an insight into the repertoire, but also take the viewer into the diversity of Korean art.
It is the first artistic encounter between Azerbaijan and Korea in Berlin.

We look forward to welcoming you.

We look forward to welcoming you. Warm Regards

Egypt travel

On the educational map of the artist couple SOOKI and Matthias Koeppel Egypt was still a blank, and so they booked 2010 a ten-day trip to Cairo, Asuan and the Nile cruise.

Overwhelmed by the magnificent impressions the tour became a work trip where they took every opportunity to draw directly on the motives and to paint watercolors. At home emerged from this material more pictures that are shown next to the sketches in this exhibition
